Epoxy Flooring FAQ | Common Questions Answered
Everything you need to know before getting an epoxy floor in SE Idaho
Solid color garage floor: $3–4/sq ft. Vinyl flake system: $4–5/sq ft. Metallic finish: $6–10/sq ft. A standard 2-car garage (400–500 sq ft) runs $1,200–$2,500. We provide free written estimates for accurate project-specific pricing.
Professionally installed with diamond grinding prep and commercial-grade materials: 15–20 years in a residential garage. Commercial floors under heavy traffic may need a topcoat refresh after 8–10 years. The prep work is the #1 factor in longevity.
Most residential garage floors complete in 1 day. Light foot traffic in 12–24 hours, vehicle traffic after 72 hours. Larger commercial projects take 2–3 days. We’ll give you an exact timeline during your free estimate.
Bare epoxy can be slippery when wet. We include vinyl flake or sand broadcast in nearly all installations, which adds significant texture and slip resistance. Anti-slip aggregate is also available for any system.
Sometimes. We do an adhesion test first. If the existing coating is well-bonded to the concrete, we can prep and coat over it. If it’s peeling or failing, we grind it off completely. Coating over failing material is the #1 reason cheap installations fail.
Epoxy is the base and color coat that bonds permanently to concrete. Polyaspartic is the topcoat applied over epoxy — it provides UV stability, chemical resistance, and fast cure times. We use both systems together for maximum durability.
Yes, with proper prep. We perform moisture vapor emission rate (MVER) testing on all basement floors before applying any coating. If moisture is present, we use a moisture-tolerant epoxy primer specifically designed to bond in the presence of vapor.
Epoxy requires a minimum concrete surface temperature of 55°F to cure properly. For SE Idaho winters, we use climate-controlled conditions for cold-weather work or schedule installs for warmer months. Polyaspartic topcoats have better cold-temperature tolerance than standard epoxy.
Remove all vehicles and large items from the floor. We handle all concrete prep — grinding, cleaning, crack repair. We’ll send you a simple prep checklist when you schedule. Your effort is minimal.
Big-box store kits rarely last more than 2–5 years because they don’t include diamond grinding prep, they use water-based or low-solids epoxy, and provide no moisture testing. Professional installation with commercial materials lasts 15–20 years and the quality difference is significant.
For solid colors: 20+ options from light gray to deep charcoal, tan, blue-gray, and red oxide. For flake systems: dozens of blended color combinations. For metallic: silver, gold, bronze, copper, black/gold, blue/silver, and fully custom blends. We bring samples to your estimate.
